Password Generator

Client-Side New

Generate strong, random passwords using crypto.getRandomValues() for true cryptographic randomness. Customize length from 8 to 128 characters and choose which character sets to include: uppercase letters, lowercase letters, numbers, and special symbols. The built-in strength meter calculates entropy in bits to show you exactly how resistant your password is to brute-force attacks. A 16-character password with all character types has roughly 105 bits of entropy, making it effectively uncrackable with current hardware. Use this tool when setting up new accounts, creating API keys, generating WiFi passwords, or replacing weak passwords flagged by your browser or password manager.

About Password Generator

  • Cryptographic randomness — Uses crypto.getRandomValues() for secure generation
  • Customizable — Adjust length (8-128) and character sets
  • Strength meter — Entropy-based scoring for password quality
  • Bulk generation — Generate up to 10 passwords at once
  • All processing happens locally in your browser

How to Use

  1. 1

    Set Password Length

Use the slider or type a number to choose how long your password should be. Longer passwords are exponentially harder to crack — each additional character multiplies the number of possible combinations.

  2. 2

    Choose Character Types

Toggle uppercase letters (A-Z), lowercase letters (a-z), numbers (0-9), and special symbols (!@#$%^&*) to customize the character set. Using all four types maximizes entropy and password strength.

  3. 3

    Check the Strength Meter

The entropy-based strength meter shows how resistant your password is to brute-force attacks. Aim for "Very Strong" (80+ bits of entropy) for important accounts.

  4. 4

    Generate and Copy

Click Generate to create a new random password. Copy it to your clipboard and paste it into your password manager or account registration form.

Examples by Niche

Web Account

16 characters with all types enabled: "k9#Fm$xQ2pLw!nR7" — 105 bits of entropy, Very Strong. Suitable for email, banking, and social media accounts.

WiFi Password

20 characters, alphanumeric only: "Hk4mPq8RtW2xBn5Yj9Ls" — easy to type on devices without symbol keys while maintaining strong security for home networks.

API Key Style

32 characters, no symbols: "aK7mR2pX9wQ4nL8tB5hY3jF6gC1dE0s" — safe for use in URLs, environment variables, and config files where symbols might need escaping.

Master Password

24 characters with all types: "R#7kP$mX2wQ9nL4tB&hY6jF" — extra-long for your password manager master password, the one password you need to memorize.

Frequently Asked Questions

How secure are the generated passwords?

Passwords are generated using crypto.getRandomValues(), which provides cryptographically secure random numbers. The strength depends on length and character diversity. A 16+ character password with all character types has over 100 bits of entropy, meaning it would take billions of years to brute-force with current computing power.

Are the passwords stored anywhere?

No, passwords are generated entirely in your browser and are never sent to any server. Your settings (length, character options) are saved locally for convenience, but generated passwords are not stored. Close the tab and the password exists only where you copied it.

What password length should I use?

For most online accounts, 16 characters with mixed character types is excellent. For high-security needs like master passwords or encryption keys, use 24-32 characters. Avoid passwords under 12 characters as they are increasingly vulnerable to brute-force attacks.

Why is a random password better than one I make up?

Human-created passwords follow predictable patterns — common words, dates, keyboard walks like "qwerty". Password cracking tools exploit these patterns. A truly random password has no pattern to exploit, making it orders of magnitude harder to crack even if the attacker knows the exact length and character set.
